Could you do this ??
If you couldn’t burn up time mindlessly scrolling through social media pages what might you notice about the world immediately around you? What conversations would you have with family and friends if your mind wasn’t frequently distracted by alerts from your phone?
No matter how busy you are, you have the ability to find a bit of sanctuary even just for 10 minutes a day by switching off the phone and quietly taking in your surrounds. You can choose to disconnect from the web and completely be with the people you are with.
The world will keep turning, it might just seem like it turns a little slower.
Challenge your self disengage from your phone, emails social media scrolling and see what happens.
Try these tips to spend less time on your phone…
GO OFFLINE FOR AN HOUR A DAY
Schedule in a daily 60 minute break by either booking a gym class where you're forced to leave your phone in your locker, going for a walk and leaving your phone on your desk or having a no-phones agreement during dinner.
GET FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO JOIN YOU
A problem shared is a problem halved. Roping your family and friends into your detox will help motivate you and make it more fun. Plus you'll feel less inclined to check your phone if you know they're not messaging.
TAKE SUNDAYS OFF
It gives your brain (and eyes) a much-needed screen break and you will feel much more in the moment. Plus if anything important happens people will find you pretty quickly. You can switch your phone to do not disturbed mode so you wont be dragged back down the rabbit hole of notifications.
READ A PHYSICAL BOOK
It's so easy to use our phones for everything (a library for our favourite audio or e-books or a gallery for our photos), but sometimes reverting back to life before tech can make all the difference. Try a real book. Grab one from our library swap at the gym and see how you go.
