2022 It’s a New Year!

Let this New Year start with a feeling of release from 2021. A feeling of newness, all the possibilities of 2022, and a feeling of being free to chose what you want your year to be like.

Firstly, a bit of information about new years resolutions you may find interesting.

  • It is thought that the ancient Babylonians first started new year resolutions. They often resolved to get out of debt or return borrowed farm equipment.

  •  In 2013 google maps asked internet users to share their goals, then, Google mapped them and analysed them. Looking at the map, health-related resolutions predominated in the US and Egypt. Australians and Japanese were looking for love. In Russia, meanwhile, education was the top priority. And in India, career goals were king.

  •  Just for interest, here is a list of the most popular resolutions from 1947 to today. Weight loss has jumped from 10th to the number one new year’s resolution. That’s the goal I will focus on but its interchangeable for any goal you wish to work towards in 2022.

Studies show that only 8% of people actually achieve their resolutions..

Almost 30 percent of people never make new year’s resolutions because they know they won’t be able to keep it. But people who make new year’s resolution are ten times more likely to achieve their goals than the ones who don’t. Lets see if we can improve those odds and achieve our goals this year..

As a good friend was commenting to me “"I know I should lose weight BUT …. There are things I don’t really want to do to make this happen.” Many New Year’s resolutions fail because we haven’t truly committed to real change. We need to consider for a moment why we haven't shifted that weight? Maybe we didn’t really want to, or maybe we were busy prioritising other things..

If you have a new year’s goal, try these 4 steps to help get you started.

Figure Out Your WHY?

Why do you want  to lose weight?

Understand not just the short-term outcome, but the true purpose of your goal.  When you understand why you want your goal, you will find a way to achieve it – even when things get challenging.  Take some time on this and write it down … find your why

Maybe you want to sleep better, have less joint pain, feel more energised? These are all great reasons WHY you want to lose weight …

What is your reason?

 Know Yourself

•          Identify your strengths and weaknesses.

•          What is going to hold you back?

•          What problems will you face?

What happens when you get tired, busy, overwhelmed?

What strengths do you own that will keep you moving towards your goal no matter what?

Know What You Need To Do

Having a desire to lose weight is not going to get you very far if you don’t know precisely what you need to do to achieve it.

 •          Design a real and specific goals (smart)

•          Develop strategies to overcome hurdles

•          Build a detailed ‘plan of action’

Getting regular exercise, getting your meals more organised. Maybe simply make your lunch and take it to work instead of buying something less healthy or skipping lunch altogether….

What do YOU need to do?

Do It!

Without action, there will be no results  - Change nothing, and nothing will change.

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Albert Einstein
